This plant has been introduced into the tropical and subtropical countries; whereas its native is Indonesia. the presence of the compound abrin makes its seeds "TOXIC" even fatal to humans. It has a nature of dominating other secies of plants and weedy in nature, where it is introduced. The seeds had being used in "SIDHAA" as medicine earlier though it is toxic. It helps to treat diabetes and nephritis (inflammation of kidney cells).
In India, it was used to measure the gold with these seeds.
